Especially for the Amsterdam 2013 celebrations, four editions of Amsterdam Heritage Days will take place in Amsterdam this year. Together these events will bring to life 400 years of the city’s rich history by sharing the secrets of Amsterdam’s changing architecture and lifestyles.During each event important buildings, monuments and private homes will cast open their doors to the public, all free of charge. Visitors can also enjoy guided tours inside buildings, walking and cycling tours, as well as visit exhibitions and attend lectures. There is also a dedicated junior programme and other special surprises.ThemesSunday 24 March 2013 – In this first edition of 2013, the focus is on the birth and rapid growth of Amsterdam’s canals, and the 17th-century architecture, interiors and lifestyles that emerged with them.Sunday 26 May 2013 – In the May edition you can experience the architecture and life of the city centre in the 18th century. Explore the effects of chic French design and Italian bravado on the city's expanding canal landscape.Sunday 14 July 2013 – In July, you can explore the influence of the 19th century: urban design, home comforts and an uncontrollable lust for decoration. This amazing period is regarded as the second Golden Age.Saturday 14 & Sunday 15 September 2013 – This special weekend focuses on the magnificent history of Amsterdam’s canals as part of the national theme ‘Power & Glory’. Over the two days, around 60 buildings and monuments will be open to the public, with many extra activities taking place around them.
