About

Each summer the Royal Palace hosts temporary exhibitions that highlight different aspects of its history. From 28 June to 5 September 2013, visitors can explore the exhibition The Palace and Dam Square, 400 years at the heart of Amsterdam’s canals.Heart of AmsterdamThe Royal Palace sits upon one of the most recognisable spots in all of Amsterdam: Dam Square. Since the 17th century, this square has enjoyed a perpetual function as a meeting place for Amsterdammers, as well as visitors from throughout the Netherlands and beyond. Historic locationTogether, the palace and the Dam form a central icon that reflects centuries of national events and important history. They have not only played host to royal celebrations, festivals, debates, protests and remembrance events, but also served as a base for administrative power and trade. It is these moments that will be reflected throughout the exhibition – through the good times, bad times and other memorable events that occurred between 1613 and 2013.
