Officially recognised by Congress as America's National Ballet Company, the American Ballet Theatre (ABT) is one of the world's leading ballet companies. Although younger than the legendary European counterparts, they are equally renowned for quality, innovation and the enduring legacy of their works. Founded in 1940, ABT is choreographically entwined with the Russian aesthetic with influences from ballet greats such as George Balanchine and Mikhail Baryshnikov, a previous Artistic Director at ABT. This is married with the radical art movement of modern, post- modern and commercial art of New York from the 1920s through to the 1980's to truly deliver unique ballet artistry. The company brings two programs for this exclusive season - the imperishable classic Swan Lake and a triple bill showcasing the three masterpieces, Twyla Tharp's Bach Partita, Alexei Ratmansky's Seven Sonatas and Jerome Robbins' Fancy Free.
