Zeyrekhane

Sinanaga Mah, Zeyrek/Fatih Cuisines: Arabic

About

Just a few short years ago, Zeyrekhane became the destination of choice for the few foreign visitors intrepid enough to seek out neighborhoods beyond the historic center. The neighborhood of Zeyrek, for centuries a major Byzantine religious hub, is now attracting the mainstream visitor, but Zeyrekhane still holds its own as a charismatic rest stop. The restaurant sits atop the Byzantine walls, opening up to a massive paved terrace just a few steps below with incredible views. The interior is all cool stone and enormous brick. The menu gets mixed reviews, so stick with the tried-and-true standards like the saç böregi (fried pastries with meat or cheese) and the Zeyrek kebap (diced and mince meat on pide covered in yogurt).
