From the first sight, a visit to Essaouira streets reveals the important number of brotherhoods that are located in almost every street. Historically, this is explained by the local people's attachement to the Sufi saints. Furthermore, they allow the believers to say their prayers without having to go too far. Among the best known Zaouiat is the Zaouia of Hmadcha which has a special custom and tradition for the practice and the coversation of Sufism by coupling chant to music. This Zaouia annually organize its festival at Bouakher district in the city center.
