In an area that is primarily a café wasteland, having long ago been turned over to bars, seafood and Peruvian restaurants (and Peruvian seafood restaurants), Yamandú is a welcome distraction and a lovely place to stop for a coffee or snack when in Barrio Brasil. The decoration is uniquely Uruguayan, with pictures o singers (like Jorge Drexler) and sports stars and buildings and other Uruguayan iconography, including a large map of Montevideo on the wall in the back. There are coffees and teas (reasonably priced), with an assortment o cakes. But what really stands out is the Uruguayan milanesa (breaded steak) sandwich, and the chivitos, another traditional Uruguayan sandwich that has layers upon layers of meat and eggs and other toppings, which is more than enough to tide you over 'til your next meal. The attention is warm and prompt, and they have free wi-fi.
