About

The Worli Fort is on a small hill on the tip of Worli, perfectly camouflaged by the slums of Worli Village. It was built in 1675 by the British who used the seven islands of Bombay to keep a check on pirates and enemy ships. Around this time, Kanhoji Angre, Shivaji's naval commander was lord of the west coast of Maharashtra and was known to raid British and Portuguese colonies and collect hefty ransoms. The Worli Fort is presently in a dilapidated condition and the approach road to the fort is also in poor shape. The fort itself is being used as a local gymnasium.
