About
This restaurant, strong on regional charm and cuisine, sits in a meadow above Mayrhofen's main colony of resort hotels. The two dining rooms are covered with pinewood planks that everyone claims were installed about 400 years ago. Even the tables are an unfinished series of smoothly sanded planks. Even if you read German, you might find the menu tough going, as it's written in a little-used Tyrolean dialect. Many dishes are based on butter-and-egg alpine recipes, sometimes laden with cream from high-altitude cows. Several involve baking in a ceramic pot, including noodles layered with cream and cheese. Ever had beer soup You might opt for the cheese platter, a bowl of polenta, or one of the meat dishes. The Wiener schnitzel, in the words of the apron-clad waitress, comes "fresh from the veal" and is "very, very pretty."
