A visit to Windsor Castle is essential as it's one of the world's greatest surviving medieval castles. This day trip from London will also take you to the beautiful Kew Gardens plus a visit to the former royal residence and recently renovated Kew Palace. Windsor Castle Over 900 years of royal history perches high above the River Thames just outside London, at Windsor Castle. From William the Conqueror to the current Queen, successive monarchs have lived at Windsor Castle and left their mark on what's now the largest continuously occupied castle worldwide. Your ticket allows entry into the castle so see for yourself the splendor of St. Georges chapel and the state apartments. Windsor itself is a pretty town full of traditional shops and historic pubs. Shakespeare's said to have written his play The Merry Wives of Windsor in one of them! Afterwards, drive through Runnymede, where King John signed the Magna Carta before heading to Kew for a traditional pub lunch (not included in price). Kew Gardens With its Royal heritage, historic buildings and 300 acres of green space, Kew is home to stunning vistas, an impressive and ornate glasshouse, aw well as some of the rarest plants on the planet. Enjoy a guided tour of the gardens followed by free time to explore. Kew Palace Set within the gardens, Kew Palace was the family country house of King George III, between 1800 and 1818. This elegant and intimate building was one of the places the King convalesced during his many bouts of illness and has been beautifully restored over recent years.
