Weekend Jade Market

Downtown

About

Every weekend Taipei's locals and tourist alike flock to the weekend jade market and the next-door flower market. While much of the jade is authentic, the market also has plenty of vendors hoping to make a quick buck off a naive traveler, so learn what you're looking for before you go, or simply stick with small purchases, like pendants or beads. It is common for Buddhists in China and Taiwan to wear small jade pendants on macrame thread around their necks, and married women traditionally wear a jade bangle on the wrist. Many of the shop owners will be happy to create a necklace or bracelet from any pendants or beads you purchase from them. Featured Image: Theron LaBounty/Flickr
