It is supposed to be the birthplace of Mahamuni (Sage the great) Vyas, who was born to Sage Parasar and a boatman's daughter Matsyagandha (smells like a fish). Sage Vyas was born immediately after the consummation. He wrote 18 Puranas that govern the whole Hindu philosophy.
