Vitthal Rukmani Temple was built about 300 years ago. The temple is situated in the heart of the city of Akola and attracts tourist from all over the world. Vitthal is worshipped a lot in states of Karnataka and Maharashtra and it is said that the Varkari sect worships Vitthal. The arati at this temple is truly mesmerizing and one can see the various forms of pooja that are conducted which includes the early morning pooja, the afternoon pooja and the late evening pooja. The statues of Vithal and Rukmani are beautifully adorned and dressed with bright coloured attire and they are bathed in the panchamrit (which is five sweet substances) and later is distributed as prasada.
