About

The Varapoha Falls is located in Jamboti, which is situated 18 km from Khanapur on the west and 20 km from Belgaum on the south-west. Jamboti is mainly known for River Mandovi, which originates from the Jamboti hills and happens to be the longest river in Goa and is surrounded by thick forests on the hilltop. This falls is mostly frequented by photographers, botanists and day travellers who visit there for picnics. The natural beauty of the Varapoha Falls is the highlight of this region. The River Mahadayi flows into the deep forest and is joined by two other streams - Pannera nala and Marcidha nala which join the waterfall, and take the name Mandovi in Goa. River Mandovi, from a height of over 150 feet falls into a gorge, which is a great sight. One might also see a pied hornbill or 'huli salinga', which is related to the poisonous tarantula, in this area. To reach Jamboti, tourists can take a train to the Khanapur Railway Station, that is the closest railhead or drive on State Highway31.
