Vaitarna Dam

Located at a distance of 17 km from Igatpuri, the Vaitarna Dam was built in 1950s on Vaitarna River amidst Western Ghats and thick forests. The dam water forms a lagoon and is a picturesque tourist attraction. The dam supplies water and also generates electricity for Mumbai. Due to increasing water scarcity, a new dam is proposed to be built here in 2011. It will soar 102 m high and will store 455 million liters of water.
