About

Located in the heart of Lecce,  Torre del Parco  , a beautiful structure built in 1419 by the Prince of Taranto Giovanni Antonio del Balzo Orsini, is one of the landmarks of the city of late medieval and Renaissance art.  A large terrace with views of Porta S. Biagio, bypasses the long avenue of trees and serves as a bridge between the Tower and the rest of the complex that includes the courtyards, the Ballroom, the Winter Garden with tall palm trees and elm trees and the Halls of the Prince when, in the mid- of the fifteenth century, the Mint was established and the Court.  Everywhere you tower over 30 meters high, in the basement, housed the  Galleys  : here, in the conch of saettiere, you can still read, engraved in stone, curses, the cries and prayers of the prisoners.  La Torre is surrounded by a wide  moat  in which, at one time, they were bred bears, the heraldic symbol of the Orsini del Balzo family and where today there is a lush citrus groves.
