About
Featured in Robert Carrier's Great Dishes of the World (Smithmark Publishing), Topsi is often described as "the doyenne of Cape chefs"; her honest home-style cooking is refreshing, her ebullient presence in the open-plan kitchen and dining room a delight. In an unassuming building off the main road, and furnished with portraits, rugs, mismatched wooden furniture, and a parrot, Topsi serves traditional South African dishes with a twist, like fresh black mussel bobotie, served with homemade chutney and green beans. Venison is normally a feature, and Topsi's vegetarian daughter ensures wonderful nonmeat options like the ricotta, spinach, and butternut crepe cake with tapenade and caramelized apple stack. The restaurant also offers a small selection of handcrafted local wines.
