About

This cemetery is fascinating for its historicity. Spend a couple of hours just browsing. Reminds us that we are all too mortal. Toowong Cemetery is Queensland's largest cemetery. The first burial was that of Colonel Samuel Blackall, Queensland's second Governor, on 6 January 1871. The cemetery was not officially opened until 3 July 1875. Since then over 120 000 people have been buried there. The cemetery contains the graves of people from many nationalities and faiths, and includes Jewish and Chinese sections.
