Tongue Thai is a very attractive restaurant in an old shop house not far from the Oriental Hotel. Outside, the wooden shutters, pots of plants and careful lighting create an almost European look, but inside the teak furniture, big umbrellas and sepia pictures of old Bangkok draw you to Asia. The food in Tongue Thai is unashamedly Thai with an emphasis on chili, garlic and spices. The wood and handmade paper menu explains that the food will be served "hot" (spicy), unless you request a milder version. Most of the dishes are recognizable but often have a different and refreshing twist. Try the Som Tom Tod (deep fried green papaya salad), or the stir-fried morning glory with roast duck for favorites with a difference. -Alyson Hillbourne
