Tong is perhaps Chiang Mai's most popular Northern style or Lanna restaurant. True to its part of town, Tong is a typical-looking semi-outdoor restaurant on a Nimmanhaemin soi, which means that Tong is easy to pass by if one isn't specifically looking for it. What makes Tong unique and not to be missed is its thorough menu of exquisitely prepared Northern Thai dishes. The prices run a bit higher than some of the other restaurants in the area, but for good reason, and they are not so high as to keep this place from being popular with the Chiang Mai University students. This restaurant is a must for visitors to Chiang Mai interested in Northern Thai culture. - Scott Johnson
