About
Situated in the highlands of Minahasa in North Sulawesi. Tondano lake is the widest lake in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. It is hemmed by Lembean Highlands, Mount Kaweng, Mount Tampusu and Mount Masarang. This lake is caldera type. The lake is 4.278 Ha wide and there is a small island in it called Likri. This lake is a source of living by the people who live by this lake. Most of them are farmers and fishers who fish and farm fish in this lake. There are many fish farms can be found around the lake. And daily visitor can see small boat of fisher on the lake. Some of the people also take the fish by shoot them. There are several fresh water fish that are found in this lake. They are tilapia, carp, cat fish, eel, tiny fish which is very famous from this lake. This tiny fish has local name called Nike. People also plant water spinach and water grass. Around this lake also, visitor can see water hyacinth, people take water hyacinth and dry it. They produce furniture from water hyacinth. By this lake also are many restaurant that serve fresh water food.
