The Theatre Royal is Australia's oldest working theatre and one of its most beautiful treasures. In 2012 they celebrate the 175th anniversary of the first performance in 1837. Leading Australian and international artists have performed here over the decades, including Laurence Olivier, Noel Coward, Lillian Gish, Marcel Marceau, Roy 'Mo' Rene, Ruth Cracknell, John Bell and Hugo Weaving. Take a guided tour to see the Theatre's elegant auditorium with its central dome, intricate gilded mouldings and rich colours and enjoy a behind-the-scenes glimpse of theatre life. A contempora ry centre for performing arts, the Theatre presents an annual program of live theatre, music, dance and entertainment.
