About

The Veterinary School’s Anatomical Theatre of the Humboldt University of Berlin (HU) re-opened its doors to the public on October 15th, 2012. The former auditorium is the oldest academic facility in Berlin and was designed by architect Carl Gotthard Langhans, who also designed the Brandenburg Gate at the same time in 1780/90. With its tiered seating, the classical structure is reminiscent of an ancient amphitheatre. It owes its present name to its previous use as a research centre to control and combat animal and equine diseases. The Humboldt University intends to use the Veterinary School's Anatomical Theatre for exhibitions in the future, as well as for events. The current exhibition provides information on the 200 year history of the venue’s usage and a portrait of Berlin’s famous architect Carl Gotthard Langhans.
