About
Take a break at the Stockyard Gallery - a caf and gallery in the small town of Mataranka, south of Katherine.
Find a table in the shady garden and sip a mango fruit smoothie, order a light snack or a delicious Devonshire tea before wandering around the gallery.
The gallery specialises in local art and artefacts. On show you will see paintings, sculptures, and Aboriginal artefacts as well as books about the Northern Territory.
Gifts and souvenirs are on sale and there is information on the history of this interesting area, which was made famous by Jeannie Gunn's novel We of the Never Never. Make sure you are photographed standing beside the four-metre statue of the postman Henry Peckham, one of the characters from the book, who guards the premises.
