The Lumbini International Research Institute (LIRI) is located in Lumbini, Nepal, the birthplace of Shakyamuni Buddha, where it is an integral part of the intellectual life of the Lumbini Master Plan. The Institute provides research facilities for the study of religion in general and Buddhism in particular by maintaining a research library. The Institute is supported by the Reiyukai (Tokyo, Japan).The library collection consists of ca. 40,000 volumes including journals and brochures. The main subject of the collection is Religious Studies in general and Buddhist Studies in particular in all relevant languages such as Pali, Sanskrit, Chinese, Japanese, Tibetan, Burmese, Thai, Ceylonese, Nepali, Newari, Prakrit, Hybrid Sanskrit. The library holds also a collection of ca. 100,000 digital texts.From June 1 to August 31 a librarian from Germany is working at the library, mainly helping in repairing books and keeping them in good shape besides the acquisition of new collections
