The Krakow Nowy Theatre was founded in June 2006 by a group of young artists and art theoreticians (students and graduates of theatre schools in Krakow, Warsaw and Wrocław and of the Jagiellonian University), who were earlier mainly connected with theatre groups of Avant'Teatr and Audytorium Theatre. The main assumption of the Theatre is to promote and popularize contemporary drama (especially European drama), activate and consolidate artistic milieu and create debut opportunities on the professional stage for young artists. The Nowy Theatre also cooperates with outstanding artists, and professors of state theatre schools, (such as, Jerzy Stuhr, Edward Linde-Lubaszenko, Bogdan Hussakowski, Iwona Bielska), who support its artistic activity by consultations and workshops. Additionally, the Nowy Theatre jointly with the Jagiellonian University Drama Chair organises a cycle of meetings and lectures devoted to the vital problems of the contemporary theatre and drama.
