The Key
About
A long time favorite of expats, The Key is located in the Haiwan Park area of Xiamen. Visitors to The Key enter through the lavish foyer, lined with bottles of liquor, and can be seated or just walk into the club. The many corridors through the club meander past the bar, with more spacious seats towards the back. Front and center is the stage, and the bar features many musical guests on every single night of the week, playing everything from blues and jazz to hip hop and radio hits. The upstairs features a balcony with a great view of the stage and a large portion of the first floor. The Key is very loud at times, and although there is no dance floor, every scrap of floor space acts as one. If you like to dance, and like high energy clubs, this is your place. The main band, Crossover, is quite good, and entertains the crowd through dancing while singing in high energy performances, especially on the weekends. Drinks are pricier when compared to other expat bars. The club can get quite crowded, and the lack of a dance floor contributes to the annoyance of squeezing past party-goers on the way to meet people at the edges of the establishment.
