Terreiro do Paço

About
An imaginative interior makeover and a revised lunch-only service have put this fashionable eatery firmly back on the culinary map. The restaurant is built into a brick-vaulted gallery in one of the buildings that fringe the huge Praça do Comércio. An outside terrace spills out from underneath the arcades to allow wonderfully relaxing al fresco dining. Inside, the historic melds seamlessly with the contemporary. Downstairs, a chessboard floor is decorated with tables dressed in colourful printed fabrics. It's light and airy and ever so slightly offbeat. Upstairs, the décor is more sedate. The space takes full advantage of the 18th-century architecture and the atmosphere is more hushed and formal. Besides the selection of drinks and snacks, the menu offers modern takes on much-loved Portuguese and Mediterranean fare. Try the pernil de borreguinho com polenta cremosa (lamb shank with polenta) or tentáculo de polvo com batata doce e grelos (octopus tentacle with sweet potato and turnip greens). © NileGuide2011 Terreiro do Paço serves exquisite Portuguese delicacies in a classy environment. This place has turned into a veritable haven for food-lovers. It has been divided into three sections, the first offering national preparations, the second serving snacks, and the third on an esplanade overlooking the river. Apart from the decor and food, the wine is excellent too, which makes for a great overall dining experience.
