The Rubén Darío National Theater was inaugurated in 1969 and is one of the most representative icons in the city of Managua and main cultural building in the country. It's contruction was promoted by the First Lady of the Somoza's Government, Hope Portocarrero de Somoza. This building was one of the few survivors from the 1972 earthquake that destroyed almost all the city of Managua that night of December 23rd.
