Inaugurated in 1980 by the Minister of Agriculture, this national park promotes environmental awareness through ecotourism. It covers 15,000 hectares and surrounds two volcanoes, Mount Gede and Mount Pangrango. The volcanic areas provide challenging terrain for the serious hiker. The park commands a spectacular panorama, and its natural attractions include waterfalls, hot springs and the Blue Lake. There are several camping grounds on-site. The main entrance and office is situated at Cibodas, with other gates at Gunung Putri, Selabintana, Situgunung. Identification cards, health certificate and travel statement from local police needed to obtain permit from the office.
