				About

Down a narrow lane, off the Mehrauli Road, is the tomb of Sultan Ghari. Built in 1231, it is one of the first funerary monuments built by the Islamic rulers in ancient India. There are many architectural elements in this tomb, which are inspired by earlier Hindu temples. The octagonal tomb chamber is housed under a rubber-built platform. If approached from the courtyard, it assumes the character of a crypt. With its massive walls and domed bastions, it looks more like a fortress than a tomb.
