About

Sturt National Park is one of NSW's largest nature conservation reserves. Established in 1972, it covers over 340,000 hectares of semi-desert country in the NSW far north west.In the east of the park around the Olive Downs 'jump-up' country, flood plains dotted with occasional trees give way to small rocky gorges and dry creek beds and flat-topped mesas rise up to 150 metres above the surrounding plains. Further to the west the red soil gibber plains are replaced by the sandhills of the Strzelecki Desert. The Wangkumara Aboriginal people travelled widely throughout this arid land, sustained by waterholes and permanent soaks. The park's located 330 kilometres north of Broken Hill on the Silver City Highway and 430 kilometres west of Bourke. It is located in the Corner Country where the states of NSW, South Australia and Queensland meet.SNP Office is located in Tibooburra and has a museum attached.
