St.Joseph's Church

The city of Trichy also houses several ancient and historic churches out of which St. Joseph is one of the popular ones. It is also one of the oldest Churches of India. It was built in 1792 by Schwartz through the support of funding of British Garrison. Britishers used this church for spreading Christianity in the place. It is situated near the Teppakulam, in the centre of the town. The church also neighbours the famous Maingaurd Gate, which has been a part of many historical events associated with the colonial rule.
