Stiftskeller

About

Stiftskeller (the name roughly translates into "Chapter Cellar") is a large restaurant, several centuries old, located in the southern part of the Hofburg. This part of the building has had many diverse functions throughout its history and Stiftskeller itself has many different rooms, each with an atmosphere of its own. There are small rooms with low vaulted ceilings, creating a very comfortable, historical setting, as well as some grand rooms with knight's armor adorning the walls, and two terraces. Traditional, hearty central-European fare sets the main theme of the menu, although there are fish dishes too. The prices, generally speaking, are average for the area which attracts a lot of locals to the restaurant.
