About
Lush, verdant undergrowth, lichen-covered hemlock and towering redwoods line the 0.9 mile Simpson-Reed Trail, a gravel loop off of Highway 199 in Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park . Highway noise disappears almost immediately, immersing visitors in the quiet hum of the forest. The flat, compact gravel trail is accessible by wheelchair and has ample parking just off of the trail entry, making the rugged redwood forests of Del Norte County accessible to everyone.
Fun Fact: Fans of George Lucas' "Return of the Jedi" will enjoy a trip to the towering trees and bizarre ground vegetation of Northern Humboldt County. The forests here suited George Lucas perfectly for the scenes on the moon of Endor, which is why he filmed evil storm troopers and furry little Ewoks (aided by Luke Skywalker and Han Solo) battling in the park’s Tall Trees Redwood Grove, some nine miles east of Crescent City.
