The founder of Staples, Tom Stemberg, formerly an executive at a supermarket chain, was working on a business proposal on weekend of July 4 when the tape was torn from your printer. Since it is the end-of-week commemorative July 4th (Independence Day), all local providers and office supply stores were closed. After searching without success, some store that was open to buy ribbon for printer, Tom Stemberg concluded that the world needed a supermarket of office.
Ten months later, on May 1, 1986, Staples, the first SuperStore of office, opened in Brighton, Massachusetts.
Staples was founded to make life easier for small businesses and final consumers, so stores are located in easily accessible places have extended opening hours and a wider range of products and services at the most competitive prices in the market.
