The State Gallery of Modern Art ranks among the world's most important venues for modern art. The gallery boasts impressive examples of expressionism, cubism, a huge collection of works by Paul Klee and Max Beckmann, pop and minimal art as well as contemporary movements in the field of multimedia. Parts of the collection can currently be seen in the Neue Pinakothek, while 21 paintings by Max Beckmann are being exhibited in the Alte Pinakothek. The entire collection of contemporary paintings and sculptures will find a permanent home in the Pinakothek der Moderne when the building is completed.
