About

St Mary's Parish Church is situated on the eastern edge of Burry Port, its spire dominating the landscape. It was built in 1877 with money given by the sons of George and Mary Elkington as a memorial to their parents. Until 1959 it was in the Parish of Pembrey but is now the mother church in the Parish of Burry Port with Pwll. St Mary's has recently been designated a Grade 2 listed building. It is cited as a prominent High Victorian Parish Church with an impresive and well detailed interior. To commemorate the church's centenary in 1977 there were a series of special events in 1977 culminating with the Lord Bishop of St David's dedicating the new stained glass west window. St Mary's holds weekly services in both English and Welsh and a warm welcome is extended to new members and visitors to the area.
