Sri Vaikuntam (Vaikuntanathan) temple is one of the famous pilgrimage destinations atTuticorin. Sri Vaikuntam temple is considered among 108 Divyadesams, which were patronized by the Azhvaars as well as among the Navatirupathi, the temples situated on both the banks of River Tamiraibarani. Sri Vaikuntam or Vaikuntanathan temple, dedicated to Lord Kallarpiran or Vaikuntanathan (Vishnu), is situated about 30 km from Tirunelveli on Tiruchendur road. The sanctum sanctorum of the temple features serpent Lord Adisesha unfurling his hood over the standing idol of Lord Vishnu, which is considered one of its kind among all the 108 Divyadeshams. The temple, built by the Pandya King Sankara Pandyan, is noted for its traditional South Indian architecture. The temple is also known for its unique feature, wherein the Sun's rays falls directly on the idol of Lord Vaikuntanathan on two days every year. It is closed between 12 pm to 5 pm.
