The Surya Pahar or hill lies close to Golapara in Assam. The hill is enriched with ancient Indian sculptures and remnants of ancient temples are also found scattered all over the hill. The hill also has a modern version of sun temple. Worshiping Sun is an age-old practice in Assam. The Surya temple nestled on Surya Pahar is a simple structure and it preserves a round shaped tablet measuring four and a half feet in circumference featuring carved images, which represent various celestial bodies including Surya. The middle figure in this entire sculpture is enclosed with an inner circle. It is bordered by 12 small figures in a seated posture. The centremost figure is of Kasyapa muni. The 12 figures encircling this centremost figure are referred to as 12 Suryas- sons of Kasyapa and Aditi. Surya Pahar is also a prominent archaeological site, as numerous rock sculpted figurine are found here. A number of granite made Shiva Lingams have also been excavated from the vicinity of the hill.
