Sri Sathya Sai University is a deemed university that was established by Sathya Sai Baba in 1981. Founded under Section 3 of the University Grants Commission Act of 1956, the university rules are based on the gurukula system of ancient India wherein education is provided totally free of cost, from kindergarten to post graduation.
Founded on November 22, 1981, by Sri Sathya Sai Baba, the university was formerly known as the Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Learning. The universality encourages students from all over the country to seek admission to various courses, irrespective of class, creed, income, religion or region. Three campuses of the university in India include the one for men at the Sathya Sai Ashram, another for men in Whitefield and one for women in Anantapur.
