The Cardosa family have been at the helm of this well-known restaurant for nearly 40 years and their reputation for serving consistently high quality Portuguese fare goes before them. Despite its location in a street full of "typical" restaurants, this is not a tourist trap. On the contrary, the regional menu here attracts a local clientele including the occasional celebrity and VIP. Fish and seafood dishes are very popular. House specialities include lagosta ao termidor (lobster thermidor) and polvo à lagareiro com batata a murro (grilled codfish with oven baked potatoes). Another, cabrita no forno à Monção (oven-roasted kid Monção-style) is a meat dish typical of northern Portugal. The excellent wine choice includes vintage ports and smooth muscatels. The restaurant is composed of three levels, the ground floor being the principal salon. The 2nd floor tends to attract business clientele while the top floor is normally reserved for group bookings. It's also where smoking is permitted.
