This big SOCOPA store is located on the Bourguiba Avenue, one block from the Plaza of the Independence, in the Palmarium commercial complex. The SOCOPA (Enterprise of Commercialization of Handicrafts Products) is a commercial society dependent on the Tunisian Ministry of Trade and Handicrafts and can provide the craftsmen with raw materials and also commercialize their products. It is aimed to be the official showcase of Tunisian handicraft, as reflected by this store where a great variety of interesting items can be found, such as carpets and kilims, silver jewelery, silverware, ceramic goods, glassworks, and traditional clothes. As the prices are fixed there is no rip off neither for the producer nor for the customer, so it's a good way to be aware of the current prices, but it definitively doesn't have the charm of a good bargaining for a carpet in the medina!
