At over 900 years old, the Skipton Castle has witnessed many major historical events, from the Crusades to the Civil War. However, it is remarkably well preserved and a visit here makes for a fun and interesting day out for all the family. Highlights include the grand banqueting hall and what must have been a very chilly bedchamber and privy. Those of a nervous disposition should probably avoid the trip into the dingy dungeon where visitors are often plunged into darkness for minutes at a time.
