As per historical evidence, the temple was constructed by the Yadava Kings of Devgiri, about 800 to 900 years ago. Devotees come here in large numbers to attend the popular Navaratri Festival that is held during Dussera. Considered to be one of the most popular Shaktipeeths of Maharashtra, Shrikshetra Mahurgadh is also a destination of religious importance. Mahurgadh is also known by the name of Mahur among locals and just 3 km from the region is the popular temple of Renuka Devi, which is located in the greener part.
