About

Opened in late 2006, this museum is now the biggest of its kind in China. The European-style architecture, listed in the National Important Relics Protective Institutions in 1996, is the former site of the Frontier Bank established in the 1930s. The ground floor, decorated in the style of the original Frontier Bank lobby, is filled with over 80 vivid full-size wax figures demonstrating how the bank worked before computers dominated our lives. At press time, the museum had opened seven rooms, displaying the financial history of the Northeast, ancient Chinese currency discovered in the area, and 1940s money featuring portraits of Dr. Sun and Mao, as well as other early foreign paper money. However, the descriptions are mostly in Chinese, with little and simple English. More rooms are expected to open by the time you read this.
