About
If these folks hadn't built up such a stellar reputation, it'd be a real surprise to find this type of dining in a simple restaurant in Same. They focus on fresh seafood -- as most beach restaurants do -- but this place stands out. Salads are served in a giant abalone shell, which itself is set in a massive slab of wood. A range of seafood is served in a variety of styles -- in a spicy coconut milk broth, over spaghetti, simply grilled, or sautéed with garlic. The pescado a la portuguesa, a fresh filet of mahimahi baked in a terra-cotta bowl with a subtle passion-fruit and tomato sauce, is served piping-hot in the same clay bowl in which it was cooked. All meals come with a salad and fresh-baked bread. But save room for dessert. The service is casual yet professional, and the ambience is rustic beach elegance, with thick cotton tablecloths, heavy Mexican glassware, and an eclectic mix of jazz, blues, and world music.
