Schloss Mirabell (Mirabell Palace)
RainerstrasseAbout
Gem of the Neustadt, Schloss Mirabell was built for his mistress and mother of his children by Prince-Archbishop Wolf Dietrich von Raitenau in 1606. The Baroque-style building that stands today was extensively remodeled in the 18th century and again, after a fire, in the 19th century. The official residence of the Mayor of Salzburg, little of it can be seen by the public. However, during office hours, the reception area with its ornate Barockstiege-Englesstiege (angel staircase) can be seen. It leads to the marble-and-gold Marmorsaal, a hall where lunchtime and evening concerts of chamber music are held. Also found in the courtyard of Schloss Mirabell are the Barockmuseum, housing sketches and preliminary works by Baroque artists, and a horticultural conservatory.
