Santitham Plaza Area
Between Santitham Road and Teparak RoadAbout
If it weren't for the YMCA and the ITM massage school this neighborhood northwest of the Old City might never see foreigners. Even with ITM and the YMCA, this area remains predominantly Thai. While restaurants here may lack the exotic décor common to those in the backpacker district, do anticipate lower prices and greater authenticity. The Santitham area still has a handful of nice guest houses, internet cafés, and places to rent motorbikes. Kad Suan Kaew shopping center and Nimmanhaemin Road are both within walking distance. Santitham Plaza itself includes a public swimming pool, a gym and herbal sauna, a few restaurants, and a strip of slightly shabby bars promoting cheap beer deals. - Scott Johnson
