This is the oldest church in India, built by the Portuguese in 1505. It happens to be one of the eight Basilicas in India and is considered to be a heritage site of Kerala. This church apart from being a place of worship, is truly a work of art. The interiors are Gothic-styled and the main altar has the brush-strokes of Antonio Moscheni, a famous Italian painter. In 1558, Pope John Paul IV endowed the Santa Cruz Basilica in Kochi with the status of a Cathedral.
