The River Shannon at Castleconnell is a world famous salmon fishery and still is one of the most prestigious fisheries in Ireland. It comprises eight beats which can accommodate twenty-four rods. This fishery gets a good run of spring salmon and plenty of grilse. The spring fish average 12 lbs and the season peaks in late March and through April. The grilse appear in May and the fishing peaks in June. The annual catch exceeds 600 fish per season. Boats are provided to access the bigger pools. The Mulcair river rises north of Tipperary Town and flows in a north westerly direction to join the Shannon at Annacotty. It is a spate river, subject to sudden variations in water levels. This fishery comprises approximately 32 kms of fishable water which includes its tributary the Newport River. The River Feale is a very productive river with many stretches controlled by angling associations. The season runs from March to September but the best times are between April and September.
